Thankful for Obama

No, really. I think he can save this country from an impending apocalypse.
Thanks to Eric and Ari for their coverage of Obama’s recent honesty about his past drug use. BUT don’t miss some of the Big O’s best media appearances of the week:
- Check out this TIME photo essay, “Barack Obama: Portrait of a Candidate.” Photographer Callie Shell travels with the candidate and offers a close look at life on the campaign trail.
- Scope Ryan Lizza’s piece “The Relaunch” in this week’s New Yorker.
- Here, MSNBC reports on O’s new $18 billion education plan. WIRED magazine explains that Obama intends to fund this plan by delaying human space exploration. This reminds me of the Gil Scott-Heron poem, Whitey on the Moon.
- Look! Mitt Romney fears a USA led by Barack Obama. Remember in elementary school how you’d tell your playground enemies that it was “Opposite Day” so everything they said meant that the inverse was true? Well, with Mitt Romney, it’s always Opposite Day.
- Oooh ooh! Obama’s first TV ad in South Carolina.
- Yay for Obama leading in Iowa. The Boston Globe says he is closing in on H-Bomb in New Hampshire, too!
- Last, but certainly not least, it looks like the other Big O–Oprah–is joining the campaign. Katharine Seelye reports for The Caucus.
All in all, this week, I’d say Obama has much to be thankful for. And I… I am thankful for Obama.

I am also thankful for the cornucopia of good news that’s been coming Obama’s way. I’d even add two:
a new Zogby poll showing less than 40% of dems want HC nationally, an 8 point drop from last month.
and the overall panning of the CNN debate as an HRC set-up.

But cutting space exploration! Say it ain’t so, O! Although I guess I admit that even Captain Picard would say we shouldn’t be fucking around in space given the problems on earth right now.

Ari, you know as well as I do that we aren’t ready for Space exploration until people are living in fenced-in ghettos outside of San Francisco and Sisko.. or is it Picard… or OBAMA…. comes back in time to save us from ourselves.
Oh. My. God.
