Dear, Iowa: It was great while it lasted

2:32 am on January 4th, 2008 by Dave Segal

Welcome to New Hampshire It was awesome at first, and you knew just how to play me — all coy, and keeping your distance. But then that veneer of mystery started to fade. The heels, the eye shadow, the awkwardly undemocratic electoral structures — I feel like I can see right through them all now.

To be honest — and it might be hard for you to hear — I’ve met somebody else. New, exciting, and really low maintenance.

I know that my emotions might seem fickle, but deep down inside we both had a sense that this long-distance thing just wasn’t meant to last. I don’t think we have much of a romantic future, but I’d like to stay real good friends. And who knows what’ll happen — three, four years from now. Maybe even an awkward one-nighter in Novemeber… this world’s a crazy place.
