For the past few weeks the new downtown party Jump has been trying to fill the shoes of Club Energy’s former Thursday resident, POP, a night that was one of the most consistently packed places since Strangeways at the Green Room. But Jump is getting by by offering something a little different, musically, instead of just stepping in and playing the same records to the same people. Although musically eccentric by anyone’s standards, POP was at its core mostly house and techno, while Jump and its rotating crew of DJs and musicians are striving to combine elements of 80’s electro, French techno, bass freakouts, microhouse and lots of other sub-sub-genres whose names are irrelevant; because the music has been awesome, the crowds a bit smaller, but growing as the promoters slowly win over the old crowd and attract new people with something a little different one week at a time.
