I know the Dose posted about this already, but the seven words guiding author Michael Pollan’s recent In Defense of Food are so worth remembering that I figured it wouldn’t hurt to post about it again.
Pollan argues that what we’re consuming these days shouldn’t even be considered food, and the way we’re consuming it–in the car, say–isn’t really eating. Agriculture’s gone crazy, and no matter how panicky people get about health and the environment people are still eating crap from the Wendy’s Value Menu, and their ideas of eating better are often, uh, misguided and terrible-tasting at best.
Pollan, who previously published the best-selling The Omnivore’s Dilemma and the popular but uneven Botany of Desire, will be speaking at the Solomon Center at Brown tonight at 6. It’s free and open to the public.
