Well, Beth, you’ve got your wish. The “site-specific installation” (the twig sculpture) on Brown’s campus will be removed this Thursday. The administration writes:
Patrick Dougherty’s Square Roots (the large twig-sculpture on the front campus) is scheduled to be removed on Thursday, March 13. Heavy winds over the weekend felled an adjacent elm tree, which landed on the sculpture and damaged the central section. The Public Art Committee installed the sculpture in October 2006 and had planned to remove it this coming summer.
Although, perhaps, unintended by the artist and University, “Square Roots” has been quite the spot for late-night student trysts of all illicit breeds since its completion. So, get your jollies while you still can…

I don’t want it to sound like I wanted this thing to come down. I loved it (except maybe the urine part). It was just looking a bit saggy is all. But I am sick about the elm. Waaaa.
