Turn to 10 has the
video scoop on the first-ever shipment of international exports from Quonset Point Davisville to lands beyond the sea. The exotic and mysterious nation of Germany will be the final destination for the 250 used tractor-trailer cabs that left South Kingstown on Monday.
Now, if only we could get France to develop a taste for clam cakes and taffy. Or, alternatively,
we could produce and export green technology.
This is part of a pilot-program which the Quonset Development Co. is hoping will boost in’tl exports from/through the Ocean State. Good on them for adding some jobs, at least.

The corporation said it hopes the pilot program will bring in bigger export deals.
“The long-term goal is to create lots of opportunities and to make it more attractive for ships and carriers to come to the port of Davisville to carry Rhode Island products back to Europe and to all over the world,” said Port Manager Evan Matthews.
The QDC said it’s hiring about a dozen new full-time employees to load the ship every month. Each worker will be paid about $56,000 plus benefits.
