New York Times crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz doesn’t make many mistakes, and this wasn’t a mistake per se, but in Friday’s paper one got by him. The clue for 10-down was “Old sit-in org.” — three letters. The answer was “SDS”. Old? If music and fashion can be retro, why not politics? Can the Symbionese Liberation Army be far behind? I wanna be Tania.

The sixties on sedatives.I remember watching the Chicago riots instigated by SDS the week I was shipping out for Vietnam and I grew up with some of those SDS radicals-and to this day I hate their guts. And I opposed going into Iraq.Don’t try to get into my head -it’s beyond your capabilities.
