You leave a College Democrats fundraiser, and find yourself YouTubing Rancid and Op-Ivy songs at 1 AM. And are kind of a yuppie, but also have enough punk-ish sensibilities to realize that Rancid’s not a punk band as such. (They played SNL, after all.)
But also randomly recognize that the opening of the song Warsaw — off their ska album, Life Won’t Wait — consists of words spoken by Dutch politician Frits Bolkestein on the concept of direct democracy, during his 1988 debate with Noam Chomsky about the ‘Manufacture of Consent‘:
“That is the vision of the anarchist. It is also a boy’s dream.”
…And then you go back to flipping between Tucker Carlson and Deep Space Nine.

I could care less about Rancid but just because a band plays SNL doesn’t mean they aren’t “punk”. Unless of course you don’t consider FEAR a punk band…
