In the sacred tradition of British folk artists like Nick Drake, Allysen Callery’s breezy, jazzy folk evokes the same sepia moods and timbres of those old boys while remaining fresh and new sounding, never rooted too firmly in the past but just enough to give her sound a little historical resonance. With lighter-than-air finger-picking and a softly lilting voice she reminds me at times of our own beloved Marissa Nadler and, oh… they’re Myspace friends. That makes sense then!
