I don’t know when I became the trashy teenage boy on the Dose staff, but I’ll (almost) round out my week of talk about yogurt enemas and fruity asses with a mention of this ad, which was at the top of my e-mail this morning. Apparently it’s a real website that sells wooden boards with holes in them, to be used for a game where you toss bean bags into the hole. Also, they are over a hundred dollars each.
The site has a sister domain, cornholeparty.com. Aside from the fact that they sell t-shirts that say “Corn Star,” there’s no indication that anyone involved has a sense of humor at all, let alone ever seen Beavis and Butt-head.* And if you think it’s just a couple of people doing this, you’re wrong. The sport even has an official governing body, charmingly called The American Cornhole Organization.
(*Somewhat relatedly, I had apparently forgotten how jerky that show’s animation style was until this morning.)

Last summer I attended the “First Annual Windy City Cornhole Classic” at Soldier Field in Chicago. There were thousands of people there.

Actually, I went to Chicago last summer to visit my girlfriend’s family and one night we went -away- from the city to a bar in the ‘burbs. They had this game, some called it bag-toss, some called it bag-o, but most called it corn-hole. We played all night, it’s an awesome and highly competitive game of skill that only requires one hand (great for drinking).

Native midwesterner here. True, we are not generally noted for our sense of irony, but the game of cornhole accompanied by copious amounts of beer (another delightfully midwestern approach to outdoor activities) does make for some mighty fun unironic times. Also a must for any sort of tailgating activity (do people tailgate in Rhode Island?)
One of my favorite aspects of the game are comparing different people’s homemade decorated boards.
And imagine my surprise and delight when I saw Brown kids on campus with cornhole boards!
