An activist friend of mine sent this along over the weekend — Friday’s vote on the supplemental budget makes it more clear than ever that we need to organize vigorously against these cuts:
I am part of a growing coalition of young voters and area college students who are advocating for responsible budgeting with a long-term focus. The Governor’s proposed budget contains sweeping cuts to education, healthcare, and affordable housing and fails to address our need for new energy sources. The proposed cuts not only threaten to destroy the fabric of our communities, but also cripple the economic advancement of the state. We are looking to partner with organizations and elected officials from Rhode Island who are also invested in maintaining the long-term health of Rhode Island.
Our project is hoping to get 1000 signatures from young RI voters calling on the legislature not to cut funds for education, health care and affordable housing as well as to fund more renewable energy projects.
