Most people writing about last night’s Lost are describing it as a letdown, and I’m not sure why. Some pretty awesome stuff happened and although there were no major gun battles or bloodletting, like last week’s episode, it was still a pretty good one. I’ll discuss after the jump, so as not to annoy those who’ve Tivo’d it.
The episode was a pretty much Jack-centric, which was nice because even though most of us are kind of sick of the whole Jack-Kate-Sawyer thing, they haven’t really done much with him lately, so seeing, by way of the flash-foward, him and Kate living together post-island rescue (which is supposedly happening at the end of this season) with Claire’s baby Aaron, (who, unbeknownst to Jack right now is his nephew) (whew) was pretty great, mostly for the fact that Kate was barely dressed most of the time. Hey, I’m easy that way, but with Jack’s visit to Hurley in the mental hospital and his creepy warning that Jack would be visited soon by someone from his past (most likely his father, who is dead) and then Claire’s vision of her and Jack’s dad (they don’t know they’re brother and sister yet) back in the “now” island, it all added up to a pretty harrowing episode. So screw the haters.
So, what the fuck is going on here? With the absence of Ben from last night’s proceedings, we didn’t get much in the way of story-advancing answers which only seem to reliably come from him. This is why he’s rapidly becoming most people’s favorite character and the episode did suffer just a bit from him not being in it.
Discuss, as usual, in the comments. Also, for a truly heroic and super-nerdy analysis go here.

I defintely didn’t hate it, but some parts were kind of weak. The whole thing with dead people not being dead is weird, and confusing. Not sure if that’s a good thing yet or not, or where that’s going. No Ben is always a let-down, which just goes to show how awesome that character/actor is, and how central to the show he is. Personally, I’m sick of the Jack/Kate/Juliet triangle. I liked it when Jin was talking about breaking fingers one by one, that was awesome. And Hurley in the mental hospital being creepy is always good. I don’t think the episode was a clunker or a let down as a whole. It had it’s weak and strong moments. It’s still an awesome show. The big question for me is what was Kate doing for Sawyer post-Island? That was the most interesting new mystery I think.
