[UPDATE (By Dave): For having been asked last night -- Yes, I voted for (and co-sponsored) this legislation. Though I think that legislators should probably make a few more bucks than they do -- about $13k a year right now -- given the amount of work and broad disruption of one's existence that the gig entails. And so it's awkward to be stripping people of benefits.]
Rhode Island’s House of Representatives voted 67-2 in favor of a bill that would require them to pay 10% of their health insurance. San Bento D-Pawtucket and Williamson D-West Warwick voted against (ProJo).
I wanted to pat our own Mr. Segal on the back for at least making the gesture, when I realized I didn’t know if 69 (tee hee) is the full compliment of reps (I believe the correct term is an ‘exaltation’ of representatives). I admit it, I don’t know enough about my state government, but a visit to their web site leaves me no smarter. Jeez Louise, what a Mobius strip (probably on purpose).
The closest I could come to finding a number was in the state constitution, and as of 2003 we had 75 reps. (I was also unable to find a breakdown of yesterday’s vote.) So I still don’t know whether Dave voted or not. It appears entirely possible that he has run away from home to travel around the country with the Flobots.
