Well, folks, it’s Pride Month, which means it’s time for all sorts of events and happenings around the city. Unfortunately, the events are actually pretty few and far-between if you’re not a raging alcoholic. Which, apparently, isn’t a problem with the homosexuals in this town.
Highlights from this week, ripped from the Pride calendar’s magical inclusion in this month’s Get Magazine, after the jump:
Tonight: Pride Party at the Alley Cat.
Friday: Pride Party at Mirabar, for the gays.
Friday: Pride Party at the Sunset Bar & Grille, for the lesbians.
Friday: Pride Party at Club Gallery. This one’s a benefit for Marriage Equality Rhode Island and honors the city’s best gay bartenders. Except, I guess, the ones that are working at the other two Pride Parties happening at the same time.
Saturday: Pride Party at the Eagle, for the gays.
Saturday: Pride Lu-out* at Club Gallery, for the lesbians.
Sunday: Pride Party at Wheels. In the afternoon.
Monday: Marriage Equality Rhode Island thing at the Wild Colonial. Which, hey, is at least an interesting choice of location, comparatively.
Then, oddly, there’s not a single thing planned for the rest of next week.
Additionally, there’s an Equity Action event that ended about an hour ago, the Youth Pride Art/Talent Show on Friday at Benificent Church, the Providence Gay Men’s Chorus will be singing patriotic songs all weekend, and there’s an AIDS walk on Saturday. Which, proportionately, means that about two-thirds of the events taking place this week are about hanging out in gender-segregated bars and one-third about catering to the parts of the gay community that might not want to spend their Sunday afternoon sitting in Wheels. (Seriously! Who would ever want to do spend an afternoon in the middle of summer in Wheels?!)
