From the mailbag: “Anyone send anything in about the huge swarm of bees in front of the Turk’s Head building yet? I’ve seen some crazy things in Providence, but what’s next? Locusts?”

Ah, yes. The plagues of ancient times have reached Providence. This is what we get for that heinous shit going on in the State House.
I can just see Charlton Heston now on Smith Hill, “Let my people go!”

bees swarm when they can’t fit in their old home anymore. they form a critical mass to protect the queen who is in the center of the swarm.
they find a temporary spot and chill out in a giant bundle while many scouts go out lookin’ for new digs.
totally normal, especially this time of year.
if the swarms bother you, or if you would like to take the swarm to keep the bees for your own hobbying (honey = yummy), contact the RI Beekeepers Association:

p.s. I am completely obsessed with bees.

Beth Comery Says:
The Channel 10 news had a piece on it. Apparently they fell off a truck, poor babies. The Providence Police called a beekeeper who came and rescued them. Yay for the PPD.

as a very irresponsible person who should carry and epi-pen for her bee allergy, this is horrifying.
