Massachusetts Legislators Gone Buckwild

8:02PM ON 07/03/2008
BY Ari Savitzky

If you thought the Rhode Island General Assembly was shenanigan-prone, think again - our neighbor to the north has got us beat (at least for this week), and Wonkette’s got the scoop.

First, there’s the heartwarming tale of a Lowell, MA legislator who gets his jollies by dressing like a homeless man and groping women in public thoroughfares. Not so crazy, you say? Well, when Representative Genital-grabber was caught, he apparently ran off, knocked over a hot dog stand during the ensuing street chase, and, when cornered, gave the police the name of a different state legislator. Fantastic!

Next, we have a legislator from yon Taunton-towne who took his opposition to Jessica’s Law a little too far. Describing how the law would force young victims of abuse to testify, Rep. James Fagan noted that, as a defense attorney, he would rip the little victims into vomit-and-tears-drenched shreds. Here’s the video:

  1. The individual who made the insane speech about Jessica’s Law was only making a graphic presentation of what Steven Brown and the ACLU are doing more indirectly when they opposed Jessica’s law here.Only two members of the RI General Assembly,Handy and Ajello, voted against it.How canthey ever explain that vote?is there still anyone around that doesn’t understand that sexual predators who target children will never stop what they are doing unless they are:
    (a)dead
    (b)incarcerated
    (c)under strict surveillance(hopefully)
I personally prefer a or b,but c is an acceptable alternative
    Mr.Fagan is disgusting.

  2. What if we just tattooed a letter or symbol on their foreheads, so everyone could know? But what color would this letter be? Ooh, maybe scarlet?

  3. In the case of child predators, that wouldn’t be a bad idea. What is wrong with you? This isn’t like stealing a car,or dealing drugs,or even an impulse murder.
Sometimes when I read an answer like yours, which is intended to be so clever,I think it’s a waste of time to try to explain anything to you, because you know it all.
Instead of making smart remarks, why don’t you suggest how it could be handled?
I understand your father is the same Dr.Savitsky who is a child psychiatrist.
Maybe you ought to ask him about predators and the damage they do.and how many are ever “cured”of pedophilia.
There is one thing I know-these people can’t just be allowed to roam at will, obtaining access to children. You probably wouldn’t object to restrictions on a typhoid carrier, would you?The New Bedford Library incident is a good example of the need for close control.
Do you have children? If not, when you do,I think perhaps you will be of a different mind on this.
