Green Zone at FH13

Wanted to let you know about Green Zone, a garden installation I created at Firehouse 13 for the summer.
It’s an organic vegetable, herb, and flower garden planted in the detritus of wartime consumption: used tires, shopping bags, and shoes. Six of the tires were pulled out of the Woonasquatucket River during the Earth Day cleanup in April 2008. Southside Community Land Trust helped me start a bunch of the plants from seed, and FH13 residents share its produce.

And visit Green Zone next time you’re in the neighborhood of Firehouse 13 and graze on some herbs or talk to the plants! They like it.
