A proud day for all Rodilandahs
7:25 am on July 22nd, 2008 by Dave SegalSphere: Related ContentLate Friday night into early Saturday morning, Peter Vican and long-time fishing buddy, Don Smith were fishing in the Block Island Volunteer Firefighters Tournament off ‘The Block’, when the fish of a lifetime clamped on to Vican’s reel.
Much to the pair’s surprise, on the other end of the line waited a 75 pound, 4 ounce striped bass. The catch shattered the old Rhode Island record by a whopping five pounds. It also came within 3 pounds, 4 ounces of a world record.

my senior year of college I spent my spring break fishing in Atlantic City on the same beach where the world record striper was caught.
I didn’t catch anything…
but! you can see a pic of me and my personal record on the wall at Ocean State Bait and Tackle on Branch Ave. I caught a 30+lb striper off a random beach behind some condos in Bristol.
excitement!
