This ancient ritual has been employed by countless cultures throughout history. There’s the intimidation factor, the psychological bonding, and the comfort of knowing that you can be easily identified by your fellow warriors, and then it washes right off for your big date (cf. Mike Tyson).
I went over to the Armory Field today to cheer on the Providence Burnsiders. At first things looked a little grim, with the BSRmadillos finding holes in the PB’s defense. But in the bottom of the third the PB offense lit up the scoreboard, pulling to within one run, making it 6 to 5. Then I had to leave. How did it end? I do not know.
(Update: Congratulations to the BSRmadillos who ultimately prevailed.)
