I’m still a little iffy on the new Girls Aloud single, though I think the video is a lot better than what they normally do. However, one thing that’s totally freaking crazy is the Girls Aloud-related lawsuit going on right now in the UK:
From the BBC:
Darryn Walker, 35, of South Shields, South Tyneside, is accused of writing and posting the 12-page “Girls (Scream) Aloud” story on a fantasy porn site.
He was arrested by Scotland Yard officers earlier this year and charged under the Obscene Publications Act.
He is next due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 22 October.
The blog was brought to the attention of police by the Internet Watch Foundation - an organisation for the public and IT professionals which polices potentially obscene material.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said it was unusual to see a prosecution brought under obscenity laws which did not involve pornographic images in magazines or DVDs.
This may not sound like a big deal, but it’s the first time there’s ever been a British obscenity trial centered around written material found on the internet. Folks in the UK are calling it the biggest test of censorship since Penguin Books was (unsuccessfully) sued in 1960 over the release of Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Darryn Walker probably doesn’t stand a chance, though, since it’s unlikely that all the hotshot literary critics of the day are going to stand up in court to defend it.
In other news, Girls Aloud’s biography, Dreams That Glitter, was released yesterday.
