There was beer in your future anyway

homeralcohol Why not pretend it’s a cultural event. However… you purse your lips, stare into space, and talk about fruity backnotes at your own peril. Today there will be two sessions at the Rhode Island Convention Center of the 15th annual Great International Beer Festival, featuring 250 beers from 160 breweries. There’s food and music as well.

$36, session one from 1pm to 4:30pm, session two runs 6:30pm to 10pm

  1. I was at the first session. It was pretty good from a beer lover’s perspective (this was my first GIBF as something always came up that trumped a beer fest in the past). Aside from the Skoal, Corona, Presidente, and Heineken tables and the random frat-boy-ish screams, it was pretty good as far as beer is concerned. The highlights were Watch City, Paper City, Blackstone Valley Brewing Supplies (which had 7 beers available, all homebrews), and Gardner Ale House. Our own Trinity Brewhouse had some great imperial beers, and Newport Storm had their Oktoberfest aged in rum barrels (presumably from their Thomas Tew rum).

If you like beer and you’re in the area next time this one is taking place, it’s worth a visit. It’s also relatively cheap as far as beer fests are concerned.
