Poor design, poor construction and no maintenance have resulted in a parking garage that is now water-damaged and structurally unsound, and it may have to be closed. According to The Providence Journal, DOT Transportation Director Michael P. Lewis is applying for federal stimulus money to cover the estimated $10 million in repairs. There’s plenty of blame to go around and even the ownership of the property is “complicated.” But it was Gilbane who built it in the mid-eighties and their spokesman had this to say, “Twenty five years is a long period of time. When we handed it over, it was fine.” Well. . . the Romans handed over their stuff 2,000 years ago and it’s still standing.
