The Wilbury Group Announces Auditions for Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

PROVIDENCE, RI: The Wilbury Group announces auditions for one of Sarah Ruhl’s most innovative works, Eurydice. Auditions will be held at Perishable Theater, located at 95 Empire Street in Providence RI, 6:00pm til 9:00pm on Monday, April 4th.

Actors should prepare a 2-3 minute monologue (contemporary or classical) and may be asked to read from the script. Actors of all types are encouraged to attend. To schedule an audition, please email info@thewilburygroup.com with your resume & preferred time.

Directed by Kristopher Lencowski, Eurydice is scheduled to run May 18-29, 2011 in a new performance space at the Eastern Butcher Block, Providence.

About Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl:

Eurydice, by Pulitzer Prize nominee Sarah Ruhl, is a bittersweet and off-beat retelling of the classic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, this time through the perspective of the departed heroine, Eurydice.  After her arrant death on her wedding day, Eurydice finds herself in an aphasic underworld, where she reunites with her father while struggling to reconcile with her lost love, Orpheus.

As visually breathtaking as it is curiously charming, passionate, and heartbreaking, Eurydice is the play that established Ruhl as one of America’s most inventive contemporary dramatists.

Recent productions include Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Rebecca Noon’s performance piece Special Happy, Edward Albee’s classic Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (recognized as “One of the Best Plays of 2010” by The Providence Phoenix) and Sam Shepard’s explosive True West. www.thewilburygroup.com.
