Wiki-Blackout To Protest Internet Censorship

As most people are by now aware, Wikipedia has declared a 24-hour blackout to raise awareness of the congressional bills purporting to protect the entertainment industry from internet piracy. Although they do provide access to one page, the one that explains the proposed legislation at issue (learn about SOPA and PIPA). Piracy may well be a problem, but internet censorship is not the answer. Dave Segal over at Demand Progress usually posts about these things but he might be busy planning his victory dance. Demand Progress has been in the forefront of this battle, educating voters on the potential evils of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the Senate and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the House. I didn’t hurt when Google and Wiki and Justin Bieber threw in as well. From Demand Progress,
The House version of the Internet Blacklist Bill was just introduced — and it’s so bad that it could effectively destroy Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and other sites that rely on user-generated content.
You can Vote for the Net and send a message to your legislators that their vote will affect yours. Google chose not to shut down for the day, but basically gave their artists the day off (after the jump).
Not on a par with the Les Paul guitar, but that’s the point.
