(2.7) Finally, fundraiser chocolate bars that don’t suck, not at all! Head over to the Whole Foods at University Heights today, meet this guy, hand over $5 for a sizable bar of top-notch, weapons-grade dark chocolate, and help out the beleaguered Central Falls community a little bit. CF native Mike Ritz, seen here in his Willie Wonka-esque garb, came up with the idea after discovering the extensive history of chocolate in Central Falls. According to ‘eat drink RI’,
. . . in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Central Falls was the regional center for chocolate manufacturing and was colloquially known as “Chocolateville.” Ritz knew that one of the country’s best chocolatiers, Andrew Shotts, had set up his Garrison Confections factory in Central Falls a few years ago so Ritz contacted Shotts to see about creating the Save Chocolateville dark chocolate bar.
The chocolate bars will be available at Whole Foods through Easter, as well as at the ‘I Heart Providence’ party at City Hall this Thursday (more later). The Chocolateville website promises that 100% of proceeds will aid children in need thanks to the Children’s Friend & Service organization.
Garrison’s chocolate is delectable. Also, the artwork on the label (after the jump) is swell.
‘Save Chocolateville’ launch, 5pm to 7pm, Tuesday, February 7, Whole Foods University Heights, 601 North Main Street
