I can not stop staring at this . . . I want to go to there. Depicted here is the interior of Nautilus Hall (love the mussel motif of the throne).
There is only one week left of the 2013 RISD Faculty Biennial, and while there is much to see, I urge you to find this particular painting: “My Little Pony: Under the Sparkling Sea” by Mary Jane Begin, a member of the illustration department. It is all the more remarkable for being rendered in watercolor, colored pencil and pastel. Begin’s extensive resumé includes advertising and merchandising for Hasbro, Milton Bradley, Disney, Celestial Seasoning’s, and more. The piece was created for a book of the same name, illustrated and written by Begin, to be launched Saturday, April 27th at Barrington Books.
During my visit last weekend it occurred to me that the talented artists represented in the exhibition spend part, or all, of their year right here in and around Providence. What RISD adds to the cultural fabric of this city cannot be overstated.
‘Biennial’ runs through Sunday, March 17, RISD Museum, 224 Benefit Street, 20 North Main Street (directions)
