How To Throw Away A Mattress

mattress From the Department of Public Works: To dispose of old mattresses in the City of Providence, residents may either schedule a pick up on regular recycling collection days for a $22 fee or drop off old mattresses at a city facility free of charge.

    Call Waste Management at 1-800-972-4545 before 3pm, at least 24 hours prior to your regular collection day, from Monday to Friday, 8AM-5PM to schedule curbside pickup. Resident will be charged a $22 fee for mattress pickup. Payments by check or credit card accepted.
    Avoid the $22 fee. Drop your mattresses or box springs directly to the Providence Public Works Convenience Center, 140 Terminal Rd. Limited to two mattresses or box springs per resident per drop-off. Proof of Providence residency required. Drop-off hours: Saturdays 7AM-1PM.

Property owners will be fined $50 to $500 for mattresses and box springs that are placed on the curb in front of their property without a scheduled pick-up. Bulky trash items and white goods will still be picked-up free of charge by calling 1-800-972-4545.

    I had that same thought as I wrote this. I doubt it is enforced often, if ever.

    Do property owners actually get fined for this or is it like not shoveling snow from the sidewalks in front of their houses? All too often my neighborhood (Armory West) looks like a used mattress graveyard. They seem to sit there for weeks before anything happens with them.
