Loui’s Hosts Bernie Houseparty
Like I needed another reason to love Loui’s Family Restaurant. Tonight they played host to a Bernie Sanders Houseparty, even setting out food for the troops. And the place was packed.
As to the local Bernie effort, there is a local Facebook page “Rhode Island for Bernie” (there will be an action meeting coming up on August 8th, check it out) and Brown students have a few different pages already. The crowd tonight was a healthy mix of young and old.
Personally, I am having trouble even discussing the campaign when the election is still over a year away — why do we do this to ourselves?! — but I guess I will have to start, a little, occasionally. I do like this guy. Go here for the official website, Bernie 2016.
But I have no trouble talking about the wonderful Loui’s Family Restaurant which has been serving breakfast all day, every day, to college students and locals for decades. Even Guy Fieri dropped by a while ago. But according to the Brown Daily Herald,
Fieri is not the first celebrity to drop by the diner. John F. Kennedy once sat down for a meal at Loui’s, as have filmmaker Steven Spielberg P’12 and the Beatles’ George Harrison.
“My mom still has a check from JFK, Jr., and she will never part with it,” [Louis’ granddaughter, Nina] Cullinane said. But the regular customers — construction workers, Providence locals and Brown staff and students — are the ones who keep Loui’s in business year after year, Gianfrancesco said.
5am to 3pm, every day, Louis Family Restaurant, 286 Brook Street
