Virtual Reality For The Times, Panel And Q&A
(2.15) I already geeked out over the cardboard virtual reality goggles when the New York Times first tucked 1,000,000 of the viewers into the Sunday paper for home delivery subscribers, thus launching their VR collaboration with Google. Go to NYTVR to watch a desktop version of the videos, download the app for your smartphone, or order yourself the goggles: cardboard ($19.95) or fancy (more). This is a lot of fun especially synced with the audio. My personal favorite is “Take Flight” with various actors like Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and a surprisingly balletic Melissa McCarthy.
Tomorrow at 5:30pm representatives from the New York Times who will take part in a discussion (and Q&A) titled “Virtual Reality for the Times: Inside the Launch of NYT-VR.”
Sydney Levin, an executive producer at NYT’s T Brand Studio, and Michael Villaseñor, creative director at NYT, will discuss the launch of the Times’ virtual reality project that aims to provide a new way to ingest news and other content. Visitors will be able to experience several immersive pieces of footage including presidential campaign events and Walking New York. Theodore Bogosian, a visiting assistant professor, and members from the Cogut Center and Arts@Brown will moderate the discussion.
I now see that there are some new videos. Gotta go.
Free and open to the public, 5:30pm, Monday, February 15, Granoff Center, Martinos Auditorium, 154 Angell Street
