Lovecraft Birthplace Marker Unveiling
(3.15) Lovecraft devotees with be meeting Tuesday at 5pm for the unveiling of a birthplace marker created by artist Gage Prentiss. Organized by the proprietors of the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council — check out their weird emporium in the Arcade — today’s event should be a fairly low-key ceremony. It’s a busy intersection so stay out of the street. Lovecraft historian Donovan K. Loucks describes the location in his Guide to Lovecraftian Sites in RI,
The Lovecrafts lived here from 1893 through 1904, when Howard’s grandfather, Whipple Phillips, died. Lovecraft loved this building and hoped to someday have enough personal wealth to acquire it. It was, unfortunately, torn down in 1961.
The house at 454 Angell Street is shown below. What a loss.
