‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ MotB
(9.1) Some serious mayhem on tap this week at Grant’s Block. Movies on the Block is playing “Mad Max: Fury Road” and this movie is a gas. I’m not usually wild about loud, hectic, action movies, but this one is clever and witty, with inventive chase-and-crash choreography. And they get the tone right. From A.O. The script, which Mr. Miller wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris, has been whittled almost clean of expository dialogue and touchy-feely bushwa.
. . . It’s all great fun, and quite rousing as well — a large-scale genre movie that is at once unpretentious and unafraid to bring home a message.
Filmed in the deserts of Namibia — seen here, the famous ‘Furiosa drops her contact lens’ scene — the movie dominated the Oscars. It was nominated for ten and won six. (The Guardian)
Rated R. Running time: exactly 2 hours. With Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult. Also, Zoë Kravitz and Riley Keough . . . I wonder what they talk about?
