Chalk Painting Fest
(9.17) The downtown skating rink will be transformed this Saturday by chalk artists — individuals and teams — all vying for ‘Best of Show.’ But they are really just in it for the glory and because it’s fun. Good, smooth surface too.
Images inspired by popular culture are a favorite. Three years ago “Breaking Bad” was topical (artist unknown, sorry).
Anyone can participate by paying a $25 entrance fee. The event has become the largest fundraiser for the Providence Rotary Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Providence Rotary. Grant recipients include: Adoption Rhode Island; Community Boating Center; Everett Company; Sojourner. Good stuff.
The artwork comes in two sizes: 8ft. x 8ft. and 4ft x 4ft. The event is free to attend, but buy some tokens and vote for your favorites. More at ProJo.
Free, noon to 6pm, Saturday, September 17, skating rink, 2 Kennedy Plaza, (directions)
