Magic Lantern At Cable Car
(11.17) Magic Lantern presents “Blackout_Flashback” Thursday night at the Cable Car — experimental videos “remediating race, technology, and time through aesthetics of the avant-garde.”
Blackout_Flashback brings together two contemporary filmmakers working on the intersection of visual art and independent cinema. Utilizing a range of avant-garde strategies such as disruption, mimesis, montage, and appropriation, Tony Cokes and James N. Kienitz Wilkins make works that interrogate the dicy intersection between popular culture, racial identity, regimes of technology, and capitalist economy.
The filmmakers will be present for a live Q&A discussion after the screening.
