Geek Dinner At AS220
(1.18) Before there was iPod, there was . . . Compaq Personal Jukebox! The PJB was the first hard-disk-based MP3 player made available on the market. This picture is from the “Interesting Items” section at the Rhode Island Computer Museum website. Good stuff.
The Providence Geeks will be holding the first Geek Dinner of 2017 this Wednesday evening at AS220. (Facebook event.)
At the first Providence Geeks of 2017, we’re joined by Dan Berman of the Rhode Island Computer Museum. Come learn about the museum’s educational outreach programs, its immense collection of computers, and some of the surprising places you might have seen their machines.
So apparently we have a computer museum. If you have never attended a Geek dinner, here is the routine.
Doors open at 5:30pm. Socializing, eating and drinking up until the 25 min presentation + q&a around 6:30pm. Afterwards, back to socializing, eating, drinking…
It’s totally casual. Wear whatever, bring whoever, arrive and take off whenever! And don’t worry about eating or not – come famished or full – eating is optional, and frankly, the least of the festivities (that’s not say the food isn’t good – it’s actually great).
Below are some of the topics you can look forward to.
Topics of conversation will vary as they will at any gathering of geeks, but many of us will be talking about start-ups, new devices, innovative business models, 3d printing, interaction design, social computing, digital art, web services. There is Wi-Fi so bring your connected device of choice.
Then go home and watch the new Portlandia in which Fred tries to mobilize his hapless nerd gang who are losing ground in the dating scene to hunks who have started listening to good music and . . . reading.
Geek Dinner, 5pm to 8pm, Wednesday, January 18, AS220, 115 Empire Street
