Farmers Market At Arcade
(1.22) The Sunday Farmers Market returns to the Arcade Providence tomorrow with crafts, produce, baked goods, dairy, meats, etc. (Facebook event.)
Fans of Providence history: The Westminster Street photo seen here is one of several old postcards and Library of Congress photos compiled by Carmen & Ginger owner Christine Francis for “A Little Retail History: Providence, Rhode Island.” Ms. Francis has carefully lined up and photographed the identical views as they exist now, creating a useful ‘Before and After’ to help orient the viewer. The project is ongoing. She writes,
Over the past holiday season, I produced a pair of Providence Retail History Tote Bags, and, was fortunate to be interviewed by, and, featured on Country Living On-line. In preparation for both tasks, I did a bit of research on the retail history of Providence. There is still MUCH to add and learn, but, I wanted to share some of what I gathered, that did not make it into the CL piece, here with you!
I have one of the small black totes and it’s great. Carmen & Ginger’s exquisite Christmas window (on the Westminster side) was featured in the Country Living piece with excellent pics. Old-timers may experience a Proustian response to those Gladdings boxes and bags of their youth. Carmen & Ginger sells vintage clothing, jewelry, cameras, cookie jars, fabrics, postcards, everything. Stop in.
