Open Thread: What are YOUR New Year’s Plans?

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

prov Contrary to the popular belief that all fun things take place in NYC, Providence is delightful in its own right, and I plan to stay put in lil’ Rhody as we meet 2008. If you, too, are staying in PVD for NYE ‘08, what are you doing? Comment, and let us know. Otherwise, check out the following:

It is commonplace to spend the month of December reflecting on the year that has passed. This year (at least when it comes to reflecting on the liberal/independent media) Alternet has done that reflection for you. Check out their Top 10 Best Environment Stories, Top 10 Rights & Liberties Stories, Top 10 Sex & Relationship Stories, and Top 10 Reasons Why I broke up with God of 2007.

Bring that Shine back to the Jewelry District

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

jewelry distThis Tuesday (today!) our very own glittering Jewelry District will be holding an open house on the future development of the district as well as the old harbor area, at the Providence Children’s Museum, 100 South Street. At 7pm the Cecil group will be giving a short presentation but anyone is welcome to stop by at anytime between 4 and 9pm to talk to members of the Jewelry District Association and The Providence Foundation.

So if you want a say in the future of our sickeningly underused waterfront area, please show up and make your voice heard.

[Update: Corrected information about this event which is not actually the jewelry district annual meeting. Sadly there will be no live blues or cash bar.]
