Heard a sliver of this at past weekend’s Providence is Burning. It’s Muscles. Go Tuesday!

The Obama team stunned us all with their decision to move his nomination acceptance speech from the 19,000–seat Pepsi Center to the 76,000–seat Invesco Field, home of the Denver Broncos. Today, the Dems’ Convention Committee announced another exciting twist, in the form of three special performances: Kanye West, Wyclef Jean, and N.E.R.D.

Rolling Stone reports:

This year’s Democratic National Convention Committee revealed that a trio of hip-hop artists — Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D. — will perform when the party gets together in Denver. A native of Barack Obama’s Chicago, West was likely included to keep all those politicians’ egos in check. Let’s just hope Obama’s speech doesn’t run long, otherwise Democrats might be in for a long night. Wyclef is becoming as well known for his humanitarian work with Haiti as his music, so his appearance at the convention makes sense. The most left-field pick is N.E.R.D., though the Democrats obviously view the band’s single “Everybody Nose” — with its chorus of “All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom” — as a shocking indictment of the current administration’s futile War on Drugs.

Other celebrities slated for attendance include Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, but let’s pray that Scarlett isn’t performing.

Is it the last weekend of June already? Jesus F’ing Christ. I haven’t even been to the beach yet! Tonight you can celebrate the wasting of the first month of summer with the excellent and probably longest-running DJ night in town Soul Power, tonight at tazza. DJ Ty Jesso along with a few disc jockeying friends and a handful (heh) of lovely, bouncing ladies stir up trouble on the dancefloor all night long. Nothing but jams! Why?  Micah Jackson plays  Morgan Louis’ monthly in the  Local 121 basement taproom. 10pm, $3 suggested and don’t forget NO  Providence Is Burning this month (we want to go to  Fool’s Ball). Anybody know if they are tearing these beautiful tickets? I certainly hope not!

As much as I enjoyed bumping uglies in the cool spring air with the 18+ crowd that showed up in droves for The Steelyard is Burning, I must say I’m excited to get back to basics this Saturday at  Firehouse 13. Sammy Bananas and Jackson are out of town so it will be  Mr. Certified Max and  I holding down the residency with local  superstar  DJ Morgan Louis throwing in a healthy dose of his own special blend. I’m getting pretty amp’d for  The Steelyard is Burning tonight. I know because I woke up jittery and anxious at like 6:30 this morning and began compulsively adding my favorite jammies to my already ample playlist. Just imagine the vibes and wonderful people at a normal  Providence is Burning (the next installment of which is coming on May 31, 2008 at Firehouse 13) and crank them up about four gagillion times.  Jackson and I,  Certified Max and a bevy of artists and industrialists of all stripes will be holding it down in a rainproof tent with a battery of subs by our sides. Come check out dope lights by Power Posse and cold brews by Gansett cuz 27 Sims is gonna get loopy tonight at 10pm.

When it comes to dancing, who’s worse … Zombies or Episcopalians? Following the actual Z-Day invasion in and around Thayer Street as previously described here, there will be a pahty across the river with Mike and Cat and the gang. Drive carefully (it’s too far to lurch) and try not to get blood on the car upholstery. The Viennagram is awesome and I heard great things about that last magic show. 11PM/21 and over only/$5 donation

Dance Dance Party Party is a hit …every Friday night at Perishable Theatre in downtown Providence, 5:30 PM, in the 3rd Floor dance studio at Perishable Theatre, 95 Empire Street. (Perishable is located downtown, an easy walk from, well, everything else downtown.)

Dance Dance Party Party is $5 per session, no reservations, no registration, no stress, no problem, just show up. THERE IS NO TEACHER so ladies can feel free to do what they want. Want to spin? Spin! Want to jump? Jump! Want to sit in the corner and do yoga? Sweet! Do it!
Dance Dance Party Party is just like being out at a club with girlfriends without the expensive cover charge and sweaty dudes grinding on you (ew) and trying to get yer number (no).

Leave the painful high heels at home, but bring workout clothes because you will SWEAT!

Have you guys seen the PVD is Burning poster this month? It was designed by the multi-talented Arley-Rose Torsone and features a couple of booty-shakin’ mods who start their bums a-smolderin’ when rubbing them together like two sticks in the woods! Some joker at White Electric added their own delightful touch by drawing some poo on there too, but that was NOT in the original design I assure you. Aside from the cool art we commission each month in conjunction with Providence Is Burning, we also have a pretty fun dance party that I think you’ll all enjoy. We got the full Certified Bananas back in the house this weekend as well as the boys of Javelin and Micah Jackson. All the Daily Dose folk who aren’t out watching the Primary results tonight will be at Local 121, drinking and dancing to excellent music while…watching the Primary results. But drinking too! On the other hand, we don’t want jonesing tango addicts roaming the East Side — they’re a depressed lot by definition. The Spot is on the second floor above Kartabar and, my favorite late-night falafel source, East Side Pockets. The Spot is an art collaborative and event space — they also offer yoga, massage, and even guitar lessons with Spogga! Known to many as that fire-guy from WaterFire, Spogga is a very cool musician as well. (Call for an appointment.)

Did y’all see the amazing PVD is Burning Poster by Ms. Michaela Colette? If not, here you go. Big respect for her meticulous use of color fades, badazz fonts and what appears to be a fire breathing wolf-dragon. Micky is one of so many amazing designers/printers/ruff-necks at the AS220 community print studio. Micky also printed some jamazing pizza boxes that will be generously distributed by our good friends at Nice Slice on Thayer. So in case you didn’t see the poster, Providence Is Burning is happening THIS SATURDAY AT 10PM! Friends from the Floating Art Project will be transforming the space and we’ll have some pinpoint spots on cool pieces of graf and street art until about 11 or so. Just so happens that 11 is also the cutoff for free entrance if you hit up the guest list by emailing providenceisburning@gmail.com with a unique name and email for each RSVP. We ( Micah Jackson) be hitting it real hard with our friends Apt One and Skinny (aka Philadelphyinz).
