When it comes to dancing, who’s worse … Zombies or Episcopalians? Following the actual Z-Day invasion in and around Thayer Street as previously described here, there will be a pahty across the river with Mike and Cat and the gang. Drive carefully (it’s too far to lurch) and try not to get blood on the car upholstery. The Viennagram is awesome and I heard great things about that last magic show. 11PM/21 and over only/$5 donation

“DANCE, DANCE PARTY PARTY” is a hit at Perishable
Dance Dance Party Party is a hit …every Friday night at Perishable Theatre in downtown Providence, 5:30 PM, in the 3rd Floor dance studio at Perishable Theatre, 95 Empire Street. (Perishable is located downtown, an easy walk from, well, everything else downtown.)
Dance Dance Party Party is $5 per session, no reservations, no registration, no stress, no problem, just show up. THERE IS NO TEACHER so ladies can feel free to do what they want. Want to spin? Spin! Want to jump? Jump! Want to sit in the corner and do yoga? Sweet! Do it!
Dance Dance Party Party is just like being out at a club with girlfriends without the expensive cover charge and sweaty dudes grinding on you (ew) and trying to get yer number (no).
Leave the painful high heels at home, but bring workout clothes because you will SWEAT!
So… what are you waiting for? To get more info on what it is all about check us out here.

Providence Is Burning April 26th
8AM ON

Have you guys seen the PVD is Burning poster this month? It was designed by the multi-talented Arley-Rose Torsone and features a couple of booty-shakin’ mods who start their bums a-smolderin’ when rubbing them together like two sticks in the woods! Some joker at White Electric added their own delightful touch by drawing some poo on there too, but that was NOT in the original design I assure you. Aside from the cool art we commission each month in conjunction with Providence Is Burning, we also have a pretty fun dance party that I think you’ll all enjoy. We got the full Certified Bananas back in the house this weekend as well as the boys of Javelin and Micah Jackson. The fun starts at 10pm this Saturday, April 26th, at Firehouse 13 and goes until 2am. Be sure to RSVP to providenceisburning@gmail.com for free entrance before 11pm.

tango dance party tonight

… and every Friday. The Spot on Thayer is located where ‘In Your Ear’ used to be (waaaa) and for those of you new to the area, that’s how we give directions in these parts. On the other hand, we don’t want jonesing tango addicts roaming the East Side — they’re a depressed lot by definition. The Spot is on the second floor above Kartabar and, my favorite late-night falafel source, East Side Pockets. The Spot is an art collaborative and event space — they also offer yoga, massage, and even guitar lessons with Spogga! Known to many as that fire-guy from WaterFire, Spogga is a very cool musician as well. (Call for an appointment.)
Beginner tango class at 7PM/stay for the tango social 8 - 11PM/286 Thayer Street/401.383.7133

Did y’all see the amazing PVD is Burning Poster by Ms. Michaela Colette? If not, here you go. Big respect for her meticulous use of color fades, badazz fonts and what appears to be a fire breathing wolf-dragon. Micky is one of so many amazing designers/printers/ruff-necks at the AS220 community print studio. Micky also printed some jamazing pizza boxes that will be generously distributed by our good friends at Nice Slice on Thayer. So in case you didn’t see the poster, Providence Is Burning is happening THIS SATURDAY AT 10PM! Friends from the Floating Art Project will be transforming the space and we’ll have some pinpoint spots on cool pieces of graf and street art until about 11 or so. Just so happens that 11 is also the cutoff for free entrance if you hit up the guest list by emailing providenceisburning@gmail.com with a unique name and email for each RSVP. We (Micah Jackson) be hitting it real hard with our friends Apt One and Skinny (aka Philadelphyinz). And we’ll be wishing our boys DJ Sammy Bananas and Certified Max a bon viaje to sunny Miami where they will be tearing it up for heads at the Winter Music Conference.

Anti-Imperialist Dance Party! Funky and Fly!
8PM ON
18/03/2008
BY
Will Emmons
UPDATE by Will Emmons:
Just got back from this event and it went insanely well. Providence SDS showed up with an anti-imperialist funk machine in the form of two speakers in a shopping cart jury-rigged to a car battery and connected to someone’s mp3 player. The funk machine was decorated with mad anti-war signs and flags. The greatest moment of my life was watching a shopping cart bumping with Daft Punk leading a train of dozens of colorfully clad activists to take Kennedy Plaza. Many young people who were waiting for buses realized that the FUNK THE WAR dance party was way cooler than where ever they were planning to go and we ended up with a head count of over 50 folks dancing on and around the Civil War memorial which had been taken over with “Providence Students for a Democratic Society” and “Resist U.S. Empire” banners. During an intermission in the dancing, Brown student Sopheya Lambertson, ‘11, and RISD student Kat Poe, ‘09, explained that this dance party wasn’t just about protesting five years of war but also taking back public space for activities other than working and consuming. Special kudos goes out to the high schooler with the koi tattoo who was break dancing and the folks who fronted the money for the car battery. My only complaint was that no M.I.A. was played.
Check back later for rockin’ pictures and be sure to check out the rest of Providence SDS’s 5th Anniversary of the War Week of Action, like tomorrow’s anti-war march with the RI Spring Mobilization Committee starting at 4:00 PM from Burnside Park (next to Kennedy Plaza) and marching to the headquarters of the war profiteer and cluster bomb manufacturer Textron and then to the State House. You’ll remember that it was Providence SDS that started this recent round of Textron activism last March with a die-in where Dylan V. Cofer-Shabica was arrested for smearing the building with raspberry jam.
Oh and to the police who videotaped us: put that shit on Youtube so I can show my mom.

Most people don’t have near-religious epiphanies regarding side-B of Emotional Rescue, but then, most people aren’t Miss Lara, the lovely and stone-cold dancing fox who is Mr. O’Keefe’s very special guest tonight. Expect 80’s love jams and assorted dancefloor softrockers. And this. Local 121, 10pm, free.

Lovelife Lands In The Speakeasy
12PM ON
25/02/2008
BY
Eric Smith
Lovelife, the brand new (monthly?) party has found a home, the Speakeasy, located in the Local 121 basement. We’re no strangers to this room because it’s where we get drunk and liveblog the Primary results as they roll in. It happens Friday, and we’ll have a bigger post later in the week, but for now expect guest DJs, crazy-ass visual effects and more American Apparel lycra than should be legally allowed in one room.
