They’re In The Can — 48 Hour Film Screenings

3PM ON 19/07/2010
BY Daily Dose

ticket booth The participants in the 48 Hour Film Project have turned in their movies and probably spent the day sleeping etc. — you can see the fruits of their labor Tuesday through Thursday nights at Cinema World at Lincoln Mall. The required prop this year was a pillow; the character was a musician; and the line of dialogue that you MUST hear in each movie is “You need help”. The screenings are broken into two groups each night, 7pm and 9:15pm; they have the team names (with leader) listed on their website, so you can find your friend. All the details at The 48 Hour Film Project site and FB.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday nights, Cinema World Lincoln Mall

48 Hour Film Project Starts . . .

3PM ON 16/07/2010
BY Beth Comery

48 Hour Film Project Consider this either a heads-up or a warning. The film crews who are registered to participate in the 48 Hour Film Project will all be meeting at this year’s launchpad, Everyman on Valley Street, at 6:45pm tonight (Friday). It’s quite a scene — 20 minutes of kick-off chaos. This is where all the crews learn what this year’s ‘Character, Prop and Line of Dialogue’ will be. Then they go off and start writing/filming/editing. If you see a bunch of maniacs running around with cameras this weekend, just get out of the way. Don’t mess up the shot!

For more info go to 48 Hour Film Project. Or FB. Good luck Mr. Ryan and everybody involved.

“I’m Pretty Sure That’s Not Right”

man with coffee That’s the required line of dialogue in this year’s 48 Hour Film Project. The other required elements are a coffee pot or coffee maker, and there better be some sort of addict named Sam or Sonya. It all comes together tonight with a showing of The Best of the Providence 48HFP at the Columbus Theatre. Organizers have announced,

There will be a Q & A session with the filmmakers after they receive their awards, and then there will be an after-party in the lobby and theater with food provided by Raymond Norman Cooks. Catering and beverages provided by Narragansett Brewing Co. and World of Wines Liquor.

$10, 7pm, Saturday, Columbus Theatre, 270 Broadway

bergmanTonight and tomorrow night as well. There will be two separate showings each night at 6:45PM and 9PM with about a dozen 5-minute films. (You can go in at any time really.) These are the efforts of the 55 teams that participated in the 48-Hour Film Project just last weekend. Sure, they can be a little rough around the edges, but that’s half the fun of it. What’s amazing is how good many of them are given the crazy time restriction on the production. The judges – and audiences – will select among these films to assemble a slate for the “Best of Providence” celebration on August 10.

48-Hour Film Project

5PM ON 18/07/2008
BY Beth Comery

clapper Only minutes away from kick-off! About 55 movie crews are about to spread out and film a short movie in only 48 hours. Rhode Island organizer, Mike Ryan, asks all citizens to be alert and patient…

On Friday, July 18th, at 6:30pm you can expect to find a lot of Red Bull-chugging, quietly anxious filmmakers huddling about their cell phones, waiting to receive assignments that will consume their every waking moment for the next 48 hours.

At 7pm, you can expect to see them pouring out of the Garden Hilton at Providence Airport/Warwick, each with a prop, line of dialog and character name they’ll need to integrate into their work. Each will also be clutching a slip of paper, drawn from a hat, with the genre their team needs to stick to.

By Sunday at 7, they need to turn in their mini-movie masterpieces – each at least 4 minutes long and none more than 7 minutes.

Public screenings will be held at the Columbus Theater on July 23 and 24. Good luck everybody.
