Like some Jazz in your Rock? Check Otis Grove at Tazza Cafe FRIDAY April, 10th
7PM ON

There’s a new sound taking over the town known as Boston. If you’re by
the banks of the Charles River as the moon glows over the muddy waters
you very well may hear some thick, groovy beats banging out a trail
for raw guitar licks and a soul-drenched Hammond organ. Yes indeed,
ladies and gentleman who are down with the funk, the rock and the
soul, you have your new favorite band: Otis Grove.
Otis Grove began as a collective experiment in crossing the
traditional jazz sound with funk and Hip-Hop rhythms. It was the
beginning of a sound based in groove, free in improvisation, yet
rooted in songwriting and soulful melodies. The music, which has
evolved into a unique blend of soulful organ funk and garage rock,
pays tribute to the masters while consistently pushing itself in new
directions.
Six years, over 500 national shows, and one UK tour later; Otis Grove is hitting it harder then ever. The trio - known for their high-energy, dance inducing, dynamic live performances - signed with Ropeadope Digital records in early 2008 and is scheduled to play Providence’s Tazza Cafe on Friday, April 10th 2009. Their one of a kind live performance is not to be missed so check it out!
Tazza Cafe
250 Westminster St.
Providence, RI
$5

Bachelor of Arts, a minimalist post punk three piece from Melbourne Australia, will be heading to Rhode Island on the 5th of March. They will be playing at Eyedrum with support from People of Color, Science for the People, Cowgirl and Volcano Girls. It is a long way from Downunder so make sure you get out to see these boys as lord only knows when they will return. Their intense live show brings to mind the likes of Shellac, Fugazi and The Fall.
Get on down to this one.
Enjoy the sonic post.

Live Tonight: Black Clouds
1PM ON
22/02/2008
BY
Eric Smith
Primitive, brutal, and relentless, Providence’s Black Clouds bring their grinding stomp-blues to AS220 tonight. They exist somewhere between an adolescent Jon Spencer in a wind tunnel and Nirvana’s Bleach, what with the screaminess and all. Absolutely glorious in their sheer volume alone, and after the jump some live footage that pretty much sums it up. As for the rest of the bill, that’s somewhat less clear. Over at Lots Of Noise they’re saying Boston’s Hospital Rats, White Load and New Haven’s Estrogen Highs while at AS220 they’re claiming Brooklyn’s Live Fast Die and Jersey’s Home Blitz with White Load. My money’s on LON. AS220 Black Clouds, others, 9pm $5 more »
