Attention fair Rhode Islanders - there has been quite a curious musical phenomenon developing in our beloved capital of Providence that I have been following for the past year and a half, and recent events have impelled me to share my findings with you, the public. The source of this scintillating sonance goes by the moniker ‘ForeverGirl’, and can be best described in our terms as a devious variant of Electronic Pop-Rock.
I present an example I have pieced together, as the result of many months of arduous evaluation:
ForeverGirl: Pain For Pleasure
Recently, ForeverGirl’s aural dominion has spread out of our small state as they have been chosen, out of hundreds, as finalists in Microsoft’s musical mêlée of nationwide proportions. If they receive the most votes, their song will be added as a free download in Lips, a karaoke game for Xbox 360. Winning this competition would surely springboard ForeverGirl into certain fame, as humans worldwide will be singing their song in their living rooms!
And that is where you come in, Rhode Islanders!
The outcome of this battle lies not in the minds and pockets of executives, but in the hearts and hopes of music fans everywhere!
So rise now, and support ForeverGirl!!
Cheers,
Bloke Snidely

Your Favorite Songs From Rhode Island

Every Sunday morning I do a radio show on BSR where I count down the week’s forty best pop songs and ask listeners to send me their own favorite (not-new) songs on a certain theme, which I count down the following week. So far I’ve run through songs about school, songs about America, songs by bands from New Zealand, gay anthems, alt-rock hits of the nineties, songs with girls’ names in the title, and songs sung by children.
This week I’m asking for people’s favorite songs to have ever come out of Rhode Island. I already know what my favorites are, but this isn’t about me, it’s about other people.* For instance, last week when I counted down the 10 Best Songs Ever Sung By Kids, I had never actually heard four of them before.
So, help me out, people. Your favorite songs to have ever come out of Rhode Island. Comment away! Although, I guess I should mention, since this is a radio event, I can only count down songs that I can actually find and play on Sunday morning.
[*Although, come on, how can you not love Slow Dog?]
Terrible News For Local Music Fans

Word on the street Facebook is The Living Room’s closing after thirty-four years in various locations throughout the city. No word on what’s happening with the remainder of the shows that were booked there. (Sorry, Toadies fans!)
In a Myspace blog, Aaron Jaehnig and Gregory Rourke explain:
The current staff of The Living Room has taken an enormous amount of pride and put a lot of hard work into keeping [original owner] Randy [Hein]’s dream alive. It is with heavy hearts and for reasons outside of our control that we will be unable to continue hosting shows at The Living Room. We sincerely apologize to any bands with shows booked that will not be able to take place. Please look for further announcements about shows that are being moved to other venues. We would also like to thank every single person that ever performed, drank, fought, danced, puked, sang along, worked or dared to dream within the walls of that club, or the two locations that preceded it.
On the bright side, I guess, the Century Lounge is re-open. I was never a huge fan of the place, although I did see a kick-ass Raveonettes show there once. Unfortunately, the calendar on their website doesn’t look very promising, though.

So what's the deal with this place? Is it related to the Liquid Lounge?...
