Film Showings: “Third Ward, TX” and “Some Kind of Funny Puerto Rican”

This Weds @ 8 the Steelyard folks are hosting a showing of Third Ward, TX, at Firehouse 13.
Third Ward TX is a one-hour documentary about a group of artists finding inspiration in the remnants of a besieged black neighborhood’s storied past.
House by house, they worked alongside residents and local volunteers to craft a stunning new vision of what could be. In the process, these artists-turned-activists transformed lives - starting with their own. Third Ward TX is a revealing look at a community’s struggle to survive - from segregation to the limited promise of integration, from drug wars to the economic challenges of gentrification. It is a story of imagination and hope, passed along person to person.
On Thursday at 7pm in Brown’s Metcalf Lab, room 129, you can catch the film, “Some Kind of Funny Porto Rican,” about the history and gentrification of Fox Point. Here’s the trailer:

hello, i went to see the documentary ” some kind of funny puerto rican ” with my mother who grew up in fox point. i’m a student at ccri and i have a research paper on immigrants and i choose cape verdean people, is there any way i may purchase a dvd for my project. then i would love to give it to mother and show it to my children. thank you. manny
