Tonight: The Brother Kite, The Cold War, Neo Nouveau

Brother Kite The Cold War

Tonight at The Blackstone is an excellent lineup of severely underrated Providence guitar pop. The Brother Kite, as we’ve previously mentioned, create an absolutely gorgeous wall of bright and soaring shoegazey guitar rock topped with beautifully layered vocal melodies straight from Pet Sounds. They are great live, and their record is fantastic. The Cold War, also pretty great and equally ignored around here, are a hidden secret among Providence’s sunlight-dodging anglophile community. The Cold War’s slack tension, most commonly compared to The Chameleons UK, combines dark, taut guitar lines with broad choruses, all drenched in a shimmery reverbed jangle. Starting out the night are Neo Nouveau, who do a sort of indie power-pop thing and are quite good.
Do you ever hang out at the Fez or White Electric and think, damn they play awesome music here? Yeah, go to this show.
The Blackstone, $6, 21+ with DJ Frankie Goes To Munich before and after the bands.
PS, The Blackstone is really close and not really in Pawtucket, it’s now out North Main street a few blocks past the Shaws. Seriously.
