District 75 race in Newport

Newport Today’s the day, folks. Democrat Bud Cicilline will hopefully be rep-elect by day’s end, not withstanding the awkward portmanteau of a name. (At 67 years old, he’s been around longer than both those mayors of Providence, anwyay.)

Cicilline spent a decade in the State Senate until he was re-districted out of office in 2002, and is now vying to fill the seat of the late Paul Crowley. He was known as a staunch advocate for social services, and a supporter of the environment and prison reform.

Taken only the littlest bit out of context, Cicilline’s Republican opponent is upset that the Democrat:

“Wants to raise the minimum wage, he wants universal health care, he also wants good-paying jobs.”

Update come evening time…
