RIP Bea Arthur

Sad news for all you friends of Dorothy:  Bea Arthur passed away this morning at the age of 86.  Mainly known to younger people for playing Dorothy Zbornak on the Golden Girls, Arthur had an impressive, Tony-winning career on Broadway and also played the title character on Norman Lear’s great sitcom Maude (which was as topical as All In The Family but not nearly as screechy.)

  1. Matt, how did I know you’d get to this before I did!

Bea Arthur was a great comedienne, her perfect reaction to the announcer saying “four lesbians” is a great example of how understated and funny she was, second only the the great Betty White of course, who was and will always be my favorite Golden Girl.
