The Library is Good Again

I hope to write more on this later — and write more, more generally, as I emerge from my hole. The Providence Community Library begins operating the branches this week, in the near-culmination of a decade-long struggle to achieve community control over Providence’s libraries. (Which have been owned and operated by private entity, even while about 2/3 of their funding has come from the city and state.)

There a celebratory events at each of the branches, all afternoon on Wednesday — and an amnesty on fines.  Check out that PCL link, for lots more info about the history of this struggle and the plans for PCL, including how you can participate in the selection of the new Executive Director.
