UPDATE: We just think this deserves to kick around on the front page a little longer.
We re-arranged NotABear’s post a bit. Hope you don’t mind. Give us a shout if you do.
As you may or may not know, KFC has chosen Providence Rhode Island to pilot it’s virally famous Double Down Sandwich. As a new restaurant/food blogger I felt obliged to try it and blog about it. Below is an excerpt from my blog post:
For those not in the fast food know, KFC’s new Double Down Sandwich is a new er “sandwich” being piloted in select markets, one of which happens to be Providence, Rhode Island. Honored at being part of a chosen few, we went the Matt Spurlock (of Supersize me fame) way and ordered a double down sandwich at the Mineral Spring’s KFC in the name of research. With a diet coke and three brownie bites – yes we got upsold – it came to $7.96.
The Double Down uses 2 slices of fried chicken as the “bread”. The “meat” or middle portion consists of 2 slices of bacon, a slice of pepper jack cheese, a slice of Swiss cheese and the Colonel’s secret sauce.
Contrary to some perceptions, the sandwich does not taste gross.
I took the plunge and got one of these tonight. Pretty ridiculous in all the ways one might imagine. Incredibly messy to eat. I can’t imagine it getting picked up nationally by KFC, so get ’em while you can, I guess…
The link should work be working again. It looks like I might know a couple of people breaking their vegetarian tendencies just to try this thing. Improving the test-market results, and hastening the demise of even more four-breasted chickens.
The “my blog post” link is not working anymore, the link to my blog is http://www.hungrykoala.com
Jess, they do provide a paper around it to avoid getting greasy fingers. I however was not up to the task and got my fingers all greasy. I do carry hand sanitizer in my car so it was all good. The paper is kind of small too. Do you think you will try it?
Is there a standard etiquette to eat such a thing? Does one use the wax paper shown to cut down on the greasy fingers?
