Game Changer Wants Input — Segal For Congress

vote segal Most Dose readers know that David Segal, one of the founders of and frequent contributor to, this blog is in real life the District 2 Representative in the Rhode Island General Assembly. During the recent upheaval caused by the Patrick Kennedy announcement many names were mentioned as potential candidates for the First Congressional District seat now up for grabs, with Mayor Cicilline and Bill Lynch throwing their hats right in. Mr. Segal has yet to make a public statement regarding this.

The latest wrinkle can be seen over at Rhode Island’s Future which (along with HuffPo, FiveThirtyEight, RealClearPolitics, a number of other news and politics sites, and even YouTube) is running an ad for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, an organization formed for the sole purpose of supporting and funding campaigns of progressive candidates. The Huffington Post wrote it up last year.

A group of progressive operatives from MoveOn and labor circles have teamed with a prominent Internet pioneer to try to give the Sam Bennetts [unsuccessful candidate] of the world the final push they need — and send even more Perriellos [successful] to Congress. The organization will be the first of its kind exclusively to focus on electing progressive Democrats in congressional elections.

Dave has not quite known how to handle this here on The Dose, and so I have decided to jump in and just get it out there, since it is already out there. Brian Hull over at RIFuture has enthusiastically endorsed Dave, and a ‘Draft Segal’ Facebook page has popped up. Click here to ‘Vote for Dave’ in the PCCC poll. Be advised, they want contact information.

  1. If Mr. Segals posts on this forum are indication, Rhose Island can do much better.
