Congrats To Kate

Kate Brock is taking over at Ocean State Action — Rhode Island’s preeminent coalition of progressive organizations. It’s still a powerhouse, but could use more stability at the helm than its had in a few years:

Kate Brock, who played a key role in organized labor’s effort to elect Lincoln D. Chafee to governor, has been named the new executive director of Ocean State Action, a Cranston-based coalition of labor unions and social advocacy groups.

The Providence native succeeds Jill Harrington, who was the interim executive director after Peter Asen stepped down for a position with the state Democratic Party.

She will also serve as executive director for the Ocean State Action Fund, a federally designated 501(c)3 “public charity” that is generally prohibited from engaging in political activities, as well as the Progressive Leadership Fund, the organization’s political action committee.

Brock joined Ocean State Action in June after leaving Repower Maine, a local chapter of former Vice President’s Al Gore’s organization supporting comprehensive climate-change legislation.

She was lead organizer for the Ocean State Action’s “Victory Campaign,” which did canvassing, mailing and paid media work to support Chafee, and the “My Voice My Vote” voter-education campaign that was targeted at the Latino community and focused on gubernatorial candidates and their stances on immigration.
