Providence Inaugural Events Schedule

Angel Taveras’s inauguration takes place on Monday, January 3rd, and will be celebrated around town with a series of events that week.  None are publicly funded, and they’re all free and open to the public, but you need to register for the biggest event — a huge celebration at the Convention Center on Monday night.

The inauguration of Mayor Angel Taveras, the 37th Mayor of the City of Providence, will take place on Monday, January 3, 2011.

3 – 4 pm Mary Fogarty Elementary School
4 – 5 pm Roger Williams Middle School
5 – 6 pm Nathanael Green Middle School

    Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
    A Basin Fire will be lit at 5:15 p.m. and burn until 7:30 p.m.

    “A Time to Come Together” in celebration of Inauguration Day. Governor-Elect Lincoln Chafee and his fellow General Officers will take part in a ceremonial lighting of WaterFire, starting at 5:00 p.m. One hundred torches will then surround the basin circle of fires in Waterplace Park.
